What Is Electro Meridian Imaging And How Long Has It Been In Use?
Electro Meridian Imaging is a powerful and effective, evaluation, diagnostic and treatment tool designed to assess the function of the organ systems and the acupuncture meridian systems of the body. We can now more clearly, accurately and efficiently diagnose imbalances in organ and meridian function and perform treatment to bring the body into balance and healing then ever before.
Many things about the dysfunction of the body can be discovered by detailing and examining a patient's symptoms, tongue and pulse as is regularly done and has been traditionally done and as we do in this office. However, what EMI does is extraordinary and unprecedented by evaluating the level of energy in each meridian and from left to right side of the body, and allowing for correction of imbalances.
In 1951 Dr.Yoshio Nakatani M.D., Ph.D developed a procedure of electronic evaluation of the meridian system by developing a simple device to measure skin conductance at the Yuan-Source points of the wrist and ankle. In doing so he added a significant new tool in the arsenal of the practice of acupuncture as performed throughout the world. Dr. Nakatani named this new method "Ryodoraku". It was later and presently called Electro-Meridian Imaging (EMI) in the US.
Why Was This Technological Breakthrough So Important?
When one compares the findings of knowledgeable masters of oriental medicine using pulse diagnosis, with the findings of EMI, the meridians are identical in terms of the energetic level of function of the organ systems and meridians they represent. Such masters of oriental pulse diagnosis are known to palpate the 12 pulse positions for as long as 15-30 minutes per wrist. A complete evaluation of symptoms, tongue and pulse takes up to 30 minutes. EMI evaluation of the 12 Yuan-Source points takes no more than 10 minutes.
EMI evaluation of your Yuan-Source points determines if an individual meridian is in excess or deficiency of Qi in comparison to the average energetic measurements all 12 primary meridians. It cannot determine other aspects such as energetic qualities of dampness, wind, heat, cold or other characteristics that a practitioner of Oriental Medicine might be able to determine via examination of symptoms, tongue and pulse. However the ability to measure the strength of the Qi of each channel and therefore the functioning level of its companion organ system is nothing less than stunning in the ease of measurement and what one can do with that knowledge in terms of the effectiveness of treatment.
Let's be clear, it was virtually impossible for anyone to quickly and comprehensibly measure the quantity of Qi in each of the meridians and identify which acupuncture points to treat before the development of this technology. It is likely that if your practitioner does not use this equipment you are likely not getting all the appropriate treatment you need.
So What Does This Mean In Terms of Treatment And My Health?
The wonderful thing about testing with the EMI equipment is that we get to see a graphic image on the computer screen or a print out of the strength of each of the 12 meridians and the state of balance bilaterally. This leads to very simple acupuncture treatments that restore the proper strength of Qi and the proper balance between left and right half of each of the 12 meridians. This is something that cannot be done without this equipment. We can measure your progress over time with the EMI graphs and by your improving health! Click here to see a sample graph.
If you don’t like needles, we can perform effective treatment by stimulating points with pressure, light or micro-current.
When one finds a meridian with elevated Qi, the patient will be manifesting symptoms of dysfunction of that organ system or meridian. The treatment approach is to use points on that meridian known to deplete Qi. By doing so this action will bring that organ and channel into its correct functioning level. When one finds a meridian with deficient Qi, the patient will be manifesting symptoms of dysfunction of that organ system or meridian due to Qi deficiency. The treatment approach is to use points on that meridian known to strengthen Qi. By doing so this action will bring that organ and channel into its correct functioning level.
In my opinion based on my personal and clinical experience that unless you have acutely painful or disturbing symptoms such as trauma, this diagnosis and treatment should be performed first before other kinds of treatments are performed. The reason being that quantum physics has proven that everything is energy either subtle or invisible or in substance. Everything is energy, remember that. Think of it this way, if any component part of your body is starved for energy it will not function properly and will eventually begin serious dysfunction leading to serious disease. So, when you are able to reduce energy to those systems that are hyper-functioning, or increase energy to those that are hypo-functioning, many symptoms and diseases will vanish when the body re- regulates itself as it does automatically when energy is flowing at appropriate levels in all meridians and organs.
One of the most significant discoveries of Dr. Nakatani was the discovery of split meridians which had never been described in the history of acupuncture. Because EMI evaluation utilizes measurements of the Yuan-Source points bilaterally, it often reveals a meridian exhibiting a split in energetic value between left and right sides of the body. This condition is indicative of a dysfunction in that organ/meridian system.
Thousands of years ago practitioners identified one of the points on each meridian as being a Luo (connecting) pathway of two paired meridians such as Lung/Large Intestine. Dr. Nakatani discovered that by stimulating the Luo point of the split meridian, a correction can be made.
Are There Any Other Therapeutic Applications of This Technology?
Additionally we can do an evaluation of the Musculo-Tendino meridians for Orthopedic conditions by using the Tsing (Jing-Well) points of each meridian that allows us to do appropriate treatments to benefit injury conditions.
You owe it to yourself to make an appointment so that we can make an evaluation of the status of the energetic system of your meridians and the organ systems they affect. This can be the thing that can work to improve your health like nothing else has. Keep in mind it is Qi that fosters growth and healing in your body. Qi is the energy that powers your immune system and everything that happens in your body!
